Applications of Artificial Intelligence based Drones

APPLICATION OF AI-BASED DRONES:

An autopiloted Drone is built with several in-built computerized programs and technologies like propulsion, navigation systems, GPS, sensors and cameras, programmable controllers as well as equipment for automated flights. Computer vision is a branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that involves the training of computers to make them interpret and understand the visual world. This field of AI plays a key role in detecting the different types of objects while flying in midair. The drone neural network and image processing techniques are used for object detection, classification, and tracking while flying into the air.

The neural networks in drones detect the various types of objects like vehicles, foothills, buildings, trees, objects on or near the surface of the water, as well as diverse terrain. Artificial Intelligence-based drones mean basically that drones have computer vision, backed with machine learning and deep learning algorithms are making a drastic change in the drone industry. It helps algorithms to learn from captured images of various objects using drones. The objects are marked to make it recognizable to drones through computer vision. In order to fly safely avoiding the obstacles in the path, a wide variety of entities are labeled to make sure that drones can detect and decide its direction and control.

AI-enabled computer vision in drones helps to track the objects while working for self-navigation and detect the obstacles to avoid a collision from such objects. In terms of self-navigation, drones get pre-defined GPS coordinates about departure and destination points, with the capability to find the most optimal way and get there without manual control which is a result of AI-enabled computer vision advances. GPS navigation is defined as a 24-satellite navigation system that uses multiple satellite signals to find a receiver’s position on earth. So, GPS navigation does not prove to be enough as a solution to solve the problem of collision avoidance.

Application of AI-enabled drones:

1. Drone in Smart Cities & Urban Management: Most of the infrastructural amenities of smart cities are either fully or partially automated with advanced security surveillance used in AI-based cameras for quick facial recognition and trace the unwanted objects. Drones play a crucial role to get the Aerial view mapping of urban houses and the urban landscape design and thus, aid civil engineers or architecture to make the most feasible plan layout.

2. Drone in Agriculture & High-tech Farming: AI-enabled drones in agriculture are playing a vital role in monitoring the health conditions of crops. Farmers use drones to determine the best time to plant as well as apply the right amount of fertilizer at the correct time. AI-based drones have the potential of planting trees by shooting the seedpods into the prepared soil. Thus they help farmers by saving their time.

3. Drone in Real Estate & Construction Industry: AI-based drones in construction companies scan or map the terrain of buildings in a much shorter time than what humans would require several days to complete. Also, real estate companies nowadays are using drones to get photographs of homes and commercial buildings, as well as aerial maps and local information for homebuyers to provide them a real set-up virtually without actually visiting at the sites in person. This helps them to save their time and effort.

4. AI Drone in Military and Defense Sector: In the military and defense sector, AI-based drones are becoming popular for using of the unmanned weapons to combat or bombard the enemies in the war. Drones are already in use for patrolling on the borders, monitoring security, tracking storms, and performing safety inspections.

5. Human Tracking and Face Recognition:  AI-based drones are used for tracking humans in societies or at parks from the security perspective. Its camera being facilitated by AI programming help in detecting suspicious people or track their face gesture or emotion tracking while flying.

6. Drones in Security and Surveillance: AI-based drones are playing an important role in the security and surveillance of people living in unsafe areas or even in habitat environments. They are used as security cameras for monitoring the unusual activities outside threats like theft or violence. In forthcoming days, we can expect that drones will become equipped with improved computer vision technology and more efficient training of autonomous flying capability, and thus will bring benefits to various essential industries and help to solve humankind’s greatest problems.
